Expert Care Through Each Phase of Treatment

While Recovery Unplugged offers a music-based treatment approach, our programs are made up of evidence-based practices that allow patients access to a well-rounded recovery experience. Our treatment philosophy is based on the fact that each patient has their own unique set of care needs. To that end, we provide customized treatment options that best suit patients’ clinical requirements and lifestyles.

Recovery Unplugged offers a variety of treatment options, including:

  • Outpatient Treatment (Multiple weekly sessions over the course of a month)
  • Intensive Outpatient Treatment (Outpatient treatment with more frequent sessions)
  • Day/Night Sessions with Community Housing (Clients stay in off-campus housing and attend regular treatment sessions)
  • Inpatient Treatment at our Texas Facility

While each patient’s program is customized according to their care needs, every course of treatment includes a combination of group therapy, individualized counseling, and supplemental therapies. Every patient also completes a thorough and comprehensive course of medically supervised detoxification or “detox” so they can expel the chemicals that have built up in their bodies through prolonged and untreated drug and alcohol abuse.

Recovery Unplugged relies heavily on a technique we’ve developed, called musical medicine, to aid patients in their progress.

What Is Musical Medicine?

Musical medicine helps clients use music as a catalyst to start breaking down the barriers they have built throughout their lives and their addictions. Our unique approach utilizes the best parts of music to transform our clients on an individual level. This is an entirely unique concept that has yielded significant success rates among our patient population.

As addiction treatment continues to evolve, more and more specialized therapies are proving to be remarkably effective. Additionally, music has been used as a therapeutic tool for thousands of years, and its success in addiction treatment is an extension of its clinical value.

Listening to recovery songs or songs about addiction is a powerful way to create a sense of empathy and insight that is unique to our approach to drug treatment. For many, this is the first time that they have been able to connect with others in years, maybe even ever. Involvement in music creates a sense of shared beliefs, ideas, and moral attitudes between participants and can operate as a unifying force for everyone involved in the experience.

How It Works: Not Just for Musicians

The Recovery Unplugged treatment program has been developed for every addict, not just musicians. The reality is that everyone can benefit from music-based treatment. A musical background is not required in order to take advantage of this specialized resource. We introduce our patients to some of the very basics of songwriting, including writing lyrics and understanding rhythm. Participation in creating music is where we see some truly exceptional results.

When people join in the creative process of making music, they tap into a very personal and emotional space. Tapping into this creates a therapeutic and emotional release that is unique to the creative process, and can often probe far deeper than traditional talk therapy.

The Way Forward

We are beginning to see more treatment centers adopt our philosophy of incorporating music therapy in drug rehab because of how effective it is at treating the underlying causes of addiction. Music in recovery can be the catalyst that treatment centers need to truly begin to make a difference in patients’ lives.
