A Commonly Abused Family of Prescriptions
Benzodiazepines or “benzos” are prescription sedatives commonly used to treat anxiety and sleep disorder. They are extremely addictive and deadly when mixed with alcohol and prescription opioids. Over 30 percent of all opioid overdose deaths involve simultaneous benzo abuse. These drugs are central nervous system depressants and can significantly impair breathing, especially when mixed with alcohol. Users who have become addicted to benzos need quality medically supervised benzo detox to eliminate the toxins that have built up in their body through prolonged and untreated use. Benzo detox is the first step in the treatment process. Some of the more common types of benzos include Xanax, Klonopin, Valium and Ativan.
