Recovery Unplugged group counselor and veteran boxing coach Billy Padden will be in Las Vegas this weekend with former NFL All-Pro turned pro MMA Fighter Greg Hardy ahead of his next match. Much of the world is aware of Greg Hardy’s widely publicized and controversial transition to the MMA world after five years in the NFL; a transition that kicked off with an explosive debut victory over fellow ex-NFL player Austen Lane. Hardy will square off against Tebaris Gordon this Tuesday at UFC’s latest Dana White Contender Series, DWCS 16. The event can be seen live on UFC Fight Pass.
Billy’s work with Hardy will be featured in a segment on NBC Sports that will air ahead of this Saturday’s UFC 227 live event. He will also be with Hardy at the weigh-in and media events leading up to Tuesday’s fight. Billy has been instrumental in helping Hardy during his transition from the gridiron to the cage, including helping him through his substance abuse. He has been Hardy’s main boxing coach since his foray into MMA, including all of his amateur fights. His influence on Hardy’s development as a fighter was underscored during a recent interview in which Hardy said he plans on borrowing from Billy’s style as he moves forward in the professional mixed martial arts world.
More important than Billy’s contributions to Hardy’s MMA career, which he claims has a chance of being among the most impressive and decorated in MMA history, are the ones that he has made to his sobriety; contributions that so many of our clients have received from Billy when working with him in group therapy.
Catch this week’s DWCS event on UFC Fight Pass and Billy’s interview with NBC Sports this Saturday. Stay tuned for further updates.
